Inked Australia/NZ Magazine Issue 16 Review

Inked Australia/NZ’s last issue of the year announces the winner of Miss Inked 2013. With the voting being so nail-bitingly¬†close this year the Winner and Runner-Up both feature on the cover. The titles go to two deserving women with good values, passion, and prove that being a woman and heavily tattooed is no obstacle on their quest for success. Miss Inked 2013 provides some words of wisdom, “If you go home with someone and they don’t own any books, don’t sleep with them.” Congratulations again to Tash, Michele and the other girls who made the Top 10.

Swastikas have for the past seven decades been a recognised symbol of hate, genocide and war. Inked Australia/NZ’s resident tattooist, Kian Forreal explains the true significance behind this symbol and why it is so prevalent in certain styles of tattoos. Kian’s column will open your eyes to the culture, tradition and representation of swastikas in cultures around the world.

On pages 108-111 Dr Rev makes an official announcement regarding his tattooing career. In his own words he shares his thoughts on living for one’s self and the very real consequences stemming from the intense negativity on social media. Dr Rev is not one to mince his words. What he shares is raw human emotion, something we all can learn from.

If there’s one to thing to take from the interview with Rancid’s guitarist, Lars Frederiksen, it’s this quote: “My first tattoo was ‘Oi!’ on my shin, but it’s now on my ankle. When you’re 11 you’re still growing so it moved a bit.” It makes for a great anecdote, however you can learn from this. You might be itching to get tattooed, but waiting until you’re 18 (and finished growing) means your ink will stay put.

Also featured in this issue:
